SCIENCE + LANGUAGE

Sometimes the difficult part isn’t the science.

A pupil may understand an idea but still struggle with a scientific term, the wording of a question or how to express an answer in English. Pera works at that intersection — without turning Science into a translation exercise.

01 · UNDERSTAND

Build the idea first.

Break a concept into clear pieces, connect it to everyday examples and check that the learner can see how the pieces fit together.

02 · LANGUAGE

Make scientific English usable.

Terms such as describe, explain, compare and predict are part of the task itself. Learners practise recognising what the language is asking them to do.

03 · THINK

Move beyond memorising the page.

Questions, patterns, evidence and simple investigations help pupils reason through science instead of relying on a memorised script.

04 · EXPRESS

Explain it with confidence.

Once the idea is understood, pupils practise putting that understanding into the English they need to use at school.

THE PERA PATHWAY

Understand. Explore. Explain. Apply.

There is no fixed script. A session can slow down, revisit an idea or go deeper depending on what the learner needs that day.

A simple learning loopPersonalised to age, pace and current school needs
STEP 01

Understand

Make the concept clear enough that the learner can picture what is happening and why.

STEP 02

Explore

Use questions, examples and observations to connect the idea to evidence and the real world.

STEP 03

Explain

Find the scientific vocabulary and sentence structures needed to communicate the idea in English.

STEP 04

Apply

Use questions and problems to turn understanding into something the learner can use independently.

Not a translation service. A bridge into confident scientific English.Understanding first. Confidence grows from there.
YOUNGER SCIENTISTS

Keep the “why?” alive.

For younger learners, Science should feel like discovery rather than a list to memorise. Simple experiments, observations, everyday examples and conversation can turn natural curiosity into scientific thinking.

How do shadows change?observe →

Notice patterns

Look closely. Compare. Ask what changed.

∿

Explore big ideas

Turn everyday moments into science questions.

Try something

Simple, age-appropriate investigations make ideas memorable.

Find the words

Give new ideas the language children need to talk about them.

MEET HATICE

A personal approach to every learner.

Pera Educations is led by Hatice Koc, who works one-to-one with pupils and shapes support around the learner’s age, confidence, current school topics and individual pace.

The aim is not simply to help a pupil complete today’s task. It is to make Science feel clearer, give learners the language to express what they know and help them become more confident asking questions of their own.

Listen firstStart from what the learner actually understands.
Make it clearTurn difficult ideas into manageable steps.
Build independenceSupport should make school Science feel more manageable over time.
FOR PARENTS

A simple way to get started.

01

Tell us what feels difficult

Share the learner’s age, current school stage, topics and where confidence is getting stuck.

02

Clarify the learning need

Is the main barrier the science itself, scientific English, question interpretation, problem solving — or a combination?

03

Shape the support

Sessions can connect with current school topics while strengthening the underlying language and reasoning skills.

04

Build from understanding

Progress is not only finishing more worksheets: clearer reasoning, stronger explanations and growing independence matter too.

PARENT QUESTIONS

Useful things to know.

Primarily Turkish-speaking pupils studying in the UK who would benefit from extra support with Science, scientific English or both. Younger children who want to explore Science through curiosity-led learning are also welcome.

English remains central because it is the language pupils need to understand and use at school. Turkish can be used strategically when it helps remove a language barrier or make a difficult idea clear.

Homework can reveal where support is needed, but the aim goes deeper: to strengthen conceptual understanding, scientific vocabulary, reasoning and confidence so the pupil can work more independently.

Yes. Support can be shaped around the topics a pupil is currently studying and the skills their school expects them to use. Specific curriculum or exam-board needs can be discussed during the initial enquiry.

No. Some pupils need help closing gaps, some need more confidence using English, and younger learners may simply be ready to ask bigger questions and explore Science further.

Start with the question your child is asking now.

Tell Hatice a little about the learner and what you would like support with. That is enough to start the conversation.
